Hello, I'm Helena. I set up Edge Consulting as a response to the growing need of parents and young people needing reassurance and clarity as they look to the future.

How I can help

As parents and students alike seek to look ahead, often finding tailored and trusted advice can be really difficult.

I seek to offer support to students and parents so that they have a guiding hand through their critical decision making process - from what subjects to study in Sixth Form, to what gap year, apprenticeship or degree they might be interested in, to the challenges and complexities of the entire university application process.

Whether you want an initial meeting and bespoke support, or specific help with their UCAS application through customised ‘personal statement packages’, I would be delighted to meet and walk alongside students and parents at this critical juncture in their lives.

About me

Meet Helena

Over the course of thirteen years in education, I have been privileged to contribute to both the academic and personal development of pupils across a range of leadership and teaching roles. My professional journey has included serving as Deputy Head (Pupil Development), Head of Seniors (with responsibility for Years 10, 11 and Sixth Form), Head of Sixth Form and Head of Destinations.

In all my roles, my focus has remained consistent: to support and enable young people to achieve their full potential, intellectually, personally and in preparation for life beyond school. Whilst leading the Sixth Form for over seven years, I placed a huge emphasis on individual mentoring, personal growth and helping individuals to have high expectations: of themselves and others.

As a qualified and experienced teacher of Classics (Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisations and Latin) and English, as well as being the Coordinator of the Extended Project Qualification, I have encouraged academic independence and vigor as well as critical thinking. My earlier experience as Houseparent to Upper Sixth girls, Head of Classics and directing and producing school musicals has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of both the joys and pressures placed on young people, and has only strengthened my commitment to the well-rounded development of every individual.

Having guided students in university, apprenticeship and workplace preparation - from interview practice, admission test support and copious Personal Statement and UCAS application advice - I am passionate about guiding students through the transition from Year 11, through Sixth Form, and into adulthood with clarity, confidence and integrity.

It is an incredible privilege to help shape the aspirations and outcomes of young people, and a role that I do not take lightly. To play a part in equipping students for meaningful, purposeful futures is something that I relish, and enabling everyone I support to have exciting options and opportunities open before them - to allow them to shine - will always be my goal.

Personal statement programmes

A lot goes into writing a personal statement. I can support students with this process, whether it’s starting from nothing or refining something that has already been written. It can be really daunting wondering what admissions tutors are going to think, and wanting to make sure that what you have written is ‘personal’ enough, intelligent without sounding conceited and that it will impress those who read it.

With a wealth of experience in this area, I aim to give students all the support I can to ensure that they have the best application and an authentic, individual and interesting personal statement.

Gives students enough time with me to brainstorm, receive feedback on their ideas and help in writing the statement:

For those that don’t know where to begin and would like support throughout the writing of the application and personal statement:

All personal statement packages have no more than a week between each session. These programmes include virtual meetings with Helena and then, between meetings, suggestions and comments on the statement itself.
